'A' Mountain July 4th fireworks canceled

By Brian White - email,bwhite@kold.com
The city manager's office has decided that Tucson can't afford the annual July 4th firework show on 'A' Mountain.
A press release sent by the city says the cancellation will save at least $51,000 in a budget facing shortfalls of over $30 million.
"It is hoped that we can fund these events in future years as funding becomes available," said Assistant City Manager Richard Miranda.
The City of Tucson has funded the 4th of July fireworks show and related events at the Tucson Convention Center for years.
Miranda said additional costs associated with the fireworks show like fire department coverage, police patrols and Parks & Recreation services were not included in the $51,000 price tag.
Private firework shows will continue as normal.
